Our union movement kicked off in 2022 at REI at our SoHo location in New York City –since then, we’ve been connecting with more REI workers, winning union elections, and expanding our coalition. 

 

With our union, we’re focused on securing a wide range of improvements and benefits, including better staffing levels, fair wages, and a real seat at the table. We’ve even mapped out “10 Essentials” that we need to see at REI - you can read more about them here.

 

We’re currently fighting hard to win our first union contract, but REI’s leadership isn’t making things easy for us. We’ve had to deal with a wide array of union-busting tactics and unlawful behavior over the years as we’ve been growing our power and standing up for the changes we need to see. 

 

Thankfully, our coalition now includes thousands of REI Co-op members and customers who have seen the company's pattern of union busting and other trends away from our Co-op’s stated values.

 

This spring, all of us are taking our fight for accountability at REI to the next level: we’re encouraging every REI member to vote against the company’s corporate Board candidates, so we can show REI we want to return to our Co-op’s founding values. It’s time we prioritize our people, our planet, and our mission, instead of selling out on the values that make REI special.
